When Tuesdays, 13 May - 22 July (no session Tues 27 May)
Location Salisbury Museum
Bookings close 6 May
In addition to the project partners, we also work on a guest delivery partnership model, where we collaborate with other local organisations to deliver courses. We are delighted to Salisbury Museum back to the project to deliver Inspired by the Past: Pot making.
A Well-City Salisbury creative course for wellbeing from guest delivery partner Salisbury Museum and ceramicist Jane Staniland.
In this course you will learn ancient pot making techniques including how to make coil pots, pinch pots and slab pots – and explore mark-making, decorative and glazing techniques. Be inspired by the new Ceramics Gallery and Wessex Gallery of archaeology at the museum – learn about pottery production from pre-history to the medieval period and have the rare opportunity to handle and study ceramic artefacts from the stores. The course will also tie into the museum’s major exhibition of the sculptor Elisabeth Frink.
Led by local ceramicist Jane Staniland, this is a friendly and supportive course that will suit all abilities. Participants will get to take home their fired pots at the end of the course (the course does not involve wheel throwing).
Sessions will run on a Tuesday between 10 – 12:30pm and will take place at Salisbury Museum. The dates for the session are:
Tuesday 13 May, Welcome Session: A chance to meet the team, see the venue, have a cup of tea and meet other participants prior to the course starting. This is a shorter session and will take place from 10:30 – 11:30am.
Tuesday 20 May – Tuesday 15 July: 8 creative sessions in total (no session 27 May)
Tuesday 22 July, Reflection and Celebration Session: A chance to come together, celebrate everyone’s time together over a cup of tea and slice of cake. This is a shorter session and will take place from 10 – 11:30am.
Access Information: This course will suit all abilities. The studio where the course will take place is fully accessible. The new Ceramics Gallery at Salisbury Museum is located on the first floor of the museum and is not accessible for wheelchair users – but alternative access will be provided if needed.
This course is available for adults 20+.
